Learning Landscape
Pearl Street Garden Collective partnered with EBCAP HEZ and community members at the Corliss Center to transform an underutilized acre of lawn into a biodiverse, sensory-rich landscape. The design process was collaborative from the start, centering the needs and input of Deaf adults with diverse disabilities who use the space. In place of lawn, PSGC installed native and pollinator-supporting plantings, accessible pathways, raised beds, fruit trees, and seating areas encouraging outdoor time and social connection. Fruit from the site is shared with both the Corliss community and the broader town of Warren, and seasonal events open the garden to neighbors, families, and volunteers. A shared stewardship model ensures the site continues to evolve alongside the community that tends it.
