Each spring and fall, PSGC teaches a regenerative gardening course with GardenTime, transforming an underutilized piece of lawn alongside each new reentry cohort. The OpenDoors site was one such project, where course participants worked with PSGC to convert compacted, nutrient-poor sod into a regenerative food forest. Berry-lined pathways, fruit tree guilds, and a native plant rain garden now occupy the space, managing parking lot runoff while providing habitat, food, and seasonal interest. Soil decompaction, mulching, and amendments laid the foundation for long-term fertility. GardenTime oversees the ongoing stewardship and garden programming of the OpenDoors property, and the garden has since become a demonstration garden as well as a gathering space for the residents and their friends and families.
